This is a hands-on course providing the student with knowledge of the techniques of GC including details of the separation process, general GC procedures, temperature programming, instrumentation, troubleshooting, quantification, and method development. This course concentrates on the technique of gas chromatography as opposed to operation using a specific instrument or software.

Outline:

Day One: Introduction to GC; Inlet systems
Day Two: Chromatographic resolution; Capillary Columns; Detectors; EPC
Day Three: Quantitative analysis; Method Development
Day Four: Headspace; Troubleshooting

Equipment:

Agilent 6890/7890 GC with Flame Ionization and Thermal Conductivity Detectors and ChemStation software.
