Fertilizers play a vital role in sustaining crop yields by supplying essential plant nutrients and nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium as well as critical metals including metals As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Fe, Na, Mg, Mn, P, Pb, Se, Zn. The optimum nutrient ratio varies crop to crop. This application investigates the use of microwave digestion sample preparation followed by ICP-OES analysis of critical metals and nutrients. The combination of microwave and ICP-OES provides significantly faster and simpler sample preparation and analysis while the results compare well with more traditional analysis schemes.
