GC/MS for Discovery or Targeted Metabolomics (premier package)
Where targeted metabolomics require the very lowest levels of detection and quantification of extremely low abundance metabolites, Agilent’s 7000A Triple Quadrupole GC/MS system combines unmatched sensitivity and selectivity with everyday reliability and ease of use.  This system generates high quality, library searchable EI spectra and enables the confident identification of targets using the Agilent Fiehn Metabolomics Library, the only commercially available database for metabolomics.

The Agilent GC/MS Metabolomics Retention Time standards kit provides a convenient, complete set of chemicals for retention time locking of the Agilent Fiehn method as well as internal standards to track GC/MS system performance. For unknown metabolites, MS/MS capability allows for the interpretation of spectra to identify compounds not in the spectral databases.

Using Agilent GeneSpring MS software, easily import, normalize and compare data from large sample sets with metadata as well as find relationships in complex experimental designs beyond pair-wise comparison.

PROTEOMICS

LC/MS for Biomarker Discovery
Protein biomarkers are usually present at low levels and within complex mixtures. Biomarker discovery presents both sample preparation and detection challenges. The Agilent HPLC-Chip and 6520 Accurate Mass Q-TOF couple high performance chromatography with fast scanning and highly specific mass spectrometry. GeneSpring MS software enables comparison of complex samples to find potential markers. Accurate mass MS/MS with high scan frequency enables a lower false positive rate for more confident protein ID.

LC/MS for Protein Identification
Because proteins of interest are typically present at very low abundance, the analytical methods must also be extremely sensitive. The Agilent HPLC-Chip and 6520 Accurate Mass Q-TOF couple high performance chromatography with fast scanning and highly specific mass spectrometry. Accurate mass MS/MS with high scan frequency enables a lower false positive rate for more confident protein ID.

LC/MS for Protein Quantitation
For complete elucidation of biological mechanisms, proteins are now required to be accurately and routinely quantified. For accurate, high-throughput “absolute” quantitation, the Agilent HPLC-Chip and 6410 Triple Quad LC/MS system provides targeted MRM peptide quantitation at femtogram detection levels, as well as the necessary throughput and 24/7 day-after-day reliability.

WATER

LC/MS and GC/MS for Water Research
Modern problems in the water industry are concerned with a range of new problems from recycled water to aging infrastructure to emerging pollutants like pharmaceuticals (PPCP) and Endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs). For many of these new compounds the best treatment strategy is still in development. Academic, water utility and government labs need the best technology to solve these problems.

Agilent tools are just what is needed to solve nearly every problem from pollutant breakdown during treatment (TOF and Q-TOF) to low level determinations in clean water (LC Triple Quadrupole MS  and GC Triple Quadrupole MS). Where the Agilent solutions really do well is when matrix problems become an issue for trace determinations. In this case the chromatographic front end to the MS spectrometer is second to none in terms of resolving the peaks of interest from interferences and also speeding the analysis to meet the productivity requirements of every lab.

Agilent has excellent collaborations in the areas of perflorinated organics and pharmaceuticals in water, the US EPA and University of Colorado respectively, so we have the right experience and tools to solve real problems at the edge of this science.

ICP-MS for Water Research and Production
The worlds water infrastructure is too old, falling apart and lacks the capacity to meet world demand. Significant government and academic dollars are being allocated and spent to address these problems.  Agilent’s solutions for metals analysis are second to none and you should remember them as you approach academic water research labs, often found in the departments of civil engineering at leading universities but especially those in land grant institutions. Government labs and municipal and regional water supplier research labs are also prime targets.

While some problems, such as lead analysis, are obvious and relatively trivial for the Agilent 7500 Series ICP-MS, other problems, such as siloxane buildup from biogas use at water treatment plants are less obvious. The Agilent solution, using hyphenated GC-ICP-MS is a proven winner for monitoring and understanding this problem.

FORENSICS & TOXICOLOGY

GC/MS & LC/MS for Forensics and Toxicology
From screening to confirmation, Agilent’s broad portfolio of LC/MS and GC/MS instruments deliver the evidentiary data quality you require with the productivity you demand!  Rapid, flexible screening for unknowns is now routine with the Agilent 6200 series LC/TOF/MS and the new Forensic & Toxicology Accurate Mass Database.  You get “all the data, all the time” for comprehensive identification of every sample component - even those not on your target list. Or consider the 6500 Series QTOF to add the benefits of MS/MS confirmation.  Thinking of adopting LC/QQQ for targeted screening or confirmation? Then the Agilent 6400 LC/QQQ is right for you!

GC/MS has long been the gold standard for confirmatory analysis and Agilent has been at the forefront with its legendary reliability and performance.  This tradition continues with the 5975C Series GC/MSD system.  The patented Capillary Flow Technology reduces scheduled downtime for system maintenance, reduces the overall analysis cycle time, and even provides the capability for orthogonal detection for enhanced data quality.

In addition, Agilent’s Deconvolution Reporting Software and Forensic & Toxicology database dramatically reduces the complexity and time required for data interpretation.  And now the new 7000A Triple Quadrupole GC/MS extends the Agilent legacy for those applications requiring superior detection capability such as the analysis of steroids or alternative matrix samples.

BIOFUELS

GC/MS & LC/MS for Biofuels
Unraveling the chemistry and optimal conditions for extracting fuels from biomass requires sorting through countless compounds, often in a complex matrix, to identify and quantitatively measure those intermediates that lead to commercially viable processes. Agilent’s broad portfolio of LC/MS and GC/MS instruments allows the researcher to select the perfect tool for this task regardless of their specific area of interest.  As the world leader in separation science, Agilent has the right product, the technical expertise, and the industry experience to unequivocally provide the data and service that you need to make the decisions to guide your experiments to a successful conclusion.

Agilent’s 7890A Gas Chromatograph with our patented Capillary Flow Technology provides unmatched control over the chromatographic separation with the added benefit of reduced downtime for system maintenance and reduced analysis cycle time.  For liquid separations, the 1200 RRLC continues as the workhorse for most liquid chromatography applications while those with the most challenging requirements can choose the recently introduced 1290 Infinity UHPLC that is the new gold standard for power and performance in liquid chromatography. Combine these with one of our mass spectroscopy platforms for unparallel performance and productivity.  And, the MassHunter software makes both operation and interpretation easy and reliable for the non-specialist.
