These videos can help you perform common maintenance procedures for the Agilent 7000 Series Triple Quadrupole GC/MS. As always, Agilent's Technical Support Team is available to answer any questions you may have regarding installation or maintenance of Agilent products.

Before you start any of the tasks below, please review the important safety precautions on pages 15 to 21 in the 7000 Series Operating Manual found on the Instrument Utilities CD that was delivered with your system.

Installing the GC Column

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Lower the analyzer cover
  6. Open the front analyzer
  7. Install the column into transfer line
  8. Close the front analyzer
  9. Close the vent valve
  10. Turn on the MS
  11. Pump down the MS
  12. Lift the analyzer cover
  13. Install the front window cover

Replacing the Filaments

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Lower the analyzer cover
  6. Open the front analyzer
  7. Remove the source from the analyzer
  8. Remove the old filaments
  9. Install the new filaments
  10. Replace the source in the analyzer
  11. Close the front analyzer
  12. Close the vent valve
  13. Turn on the MS
  14. Pump down the MS
  15. Lift the analyzer cover
  16. Install the front window cover

Cleaning the EI Ion Source

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Lower the analyzer cover
  6. Open the front analyzer
  7. Remove the source from the analyzer
  8. Remove the filaments
  9. Identify ion source parts
  10. Source parts that need to be cleaned (also available as a downloadable and printable document, 541 kb)
  11. Disassemble the EI source
  12. Clean the EI source
  13. Sonicate the source parts
  14. Reassemble the EI source
  15. Reinstall the filaments
  16. Replace the source in the analyzer
  17. Close the front analyzer
  18. Close the vent valve
  19. Turn on the MS
  20. Pump down the MS
  21. Lift the analyzer cover
  22. Install the front window cover

Cleaning the CI Ion Source

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Lower the analyzer cover
  6. Open the front analyzer
  7. Remove the source from the analyzer
  8. Remove the filaments
  9. Source parts that need to be cleaned (pdf, 541 kb)
  10. Disassemble the CI source
  11. Clean the CI source
  12. Sonicate the source parts
  13. Reassemble the CI source
  14. Reinstall the filaments
  15. Replace the source in the analyzer
  16. Close the front analyzer
  17. Close the vent valve
  18. Turn on the MS
  19. Pump down the MS
  20. Lift the analyzer cover
  21. Install the front window cover

Replacing the Detector Electron Multiplier Horn

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Lower the analyzer cover
  6. Open the rear analyzer
  7. Remove the horn from the analyzer
  8. Install the triple-axis detector horn
  9. Close the rear analyzer
  10. Close the vent valve
  11. Turn on the MS
  12. Pump down the MS
  13. Lift the analyzer cover
  14. Install the front window cover

Filling the Calibration Vial

  1. Remove the front window cover
  2. Refill and install the calibration vial
  3. Install the front window cover

Changing the Pump Oil

  1. In the MassHunter software, initiate a vent and wait for the process to complete
  2. Turn off the MS and wait for the rough pump to turn off (approximately 60 seconds)
  3. Remove the front window cover
  4. Open the vent valve
  5. Remove the oil plugs on top of the pump
  6. Remove the drain plug and drain the oil
  7. Replace the drain plug
  8. Add oil to the pump
  9. Replace the oil plugs on top of the pump
  10. Close the vent valve
  11. Turn on the MS
  12. Pump down the MS
  13. Install the front window cover
