  • What are the Steps to Put a GC/MS System Onto the Company Network?
Networking of a Chemstation PC to a company network depends on the Windows Operating System. The user can add an 2nd network adapter to the PC or can use a switch device. (A CE should always ask to involve the local IT department.) For WINNT the 1st network adapter has to be used to control the analytical instruments. For example set the IP address of the PC to 10.1.1.100 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 The analytical instruments should be assigned IPaddresses like 10.1.1.101. After you have verified that the ChemStation communicates and works with the instruments, you can configure the 2nd adapter for your house network. For Win2000 and WINXP you have to configure the 1st adapter to be used for the house network and the 2nd adapter can be used for instrument control. A good tool to troubleshoot LAN problems is the "old" CAGBootP program. Open Bootp, clear the screen and power cycle the analytical instrument. The jetdirect card will send out a request for an IP address, which you can see on the Bootp screen. Make sure you see the configured IP address of the analytical device and the correct HOST-IPadress of the network adapter in the PC.
