The most likely cause is that the PC was loaded with Windows XP SP2 and now has the XP firewall enabled. The firewall needs to be disabled.
To disable the firewall in Windows XP with SP2:
- Press the Windows 'Start' button and click on the 'Control Panel'.
- Double click on the 'Network Connections' icon.
- Double click on the 'Local Area Connection' icon in the 'Network Connections' window.
- Click the 'Properties' button under the 'General tab' in the 'Local Area Connection Status' window.
- Select the 'Advanced' tab in the 'Local Area Connection Properties' window.
- In that same window click the 'Settings' button in the 'Windows Firewall' box.
- In the 'Windows Firewall' window under the 'General' tab select the 'Off' radio button and click the 'OK' button.
Notes:
- After disabling the Windows firewall you might need to power cycle the 5973 MS before starting the MS ChemStation.
- If the system still does not start correctly you can run the Networking Tests from the Help Menu in the Configuration Editor program. (See the MS Productivity ChemStation Installation Manual for more information about these tests.
- You can use 'Exceptions' in the Windows Firewall to get the system to communicate but it is not recommended.
