KB002137: What Models of Multimode Sources are Available? - General LC/MS 

There are two versions of the multimode source; G1978A and G1978B:
1. G1978A multimode source is required for TOF, Trap and 1100 Series LC/MSD (Requires 32Bit ChemStation)
2. G1978B multimode source is required for QTOF, QQQ and 6100 SQ family
The G1978B multimode source has the same performance as the original, but is designed with slightly different connectors and power supplies in order to satisfy requirements for the new product lines: G6510AA QTOF, G6410AA QQQ, and G6110AA, G6120AA, G6130AA, G6140AA SQ instruments. It is important to note that the original G1978A source will not fit on these new products; it will be necessary for customers wanting multimode compatibility with these new products to purchase the G1978B version of the multimode source.
