This document explains how to configure a column from your Agilent software for 3 versions of the ChemStation software: B.03.01, B.03.02, and B.04.01. The screens found in the MSD ChemStation and EZChrom software are almost the same.Once you have launched the software, select GC Configuration menuItem from the Instrument menu.

The Configuration screen that appears has two sets of tabs.
1. Select the Configration tab.
2. Select the Columns tab.
Column Configuration – version B.03.01
To Install a column, click the button next to a column row to add (+) or remove (-) a column from the table. Clicking the button under the +/- column heading brings up the screen below to install the selected column, calibrate selected column, or delete a column.

This feature was not implemented completely – there were three major problems:
· The column numbers were not displayed on the interface
· Once a column was added, it could not be removed.
· The lowest Temperature Limit for any column, even if it was not being used, was applied to the method.
Column Configuration – version B.03.02 and B.04.01
In the recent version of ChemStation, the columns are numbered, and can be added and removed. For step by step instructions, see below.

1. Select the Columns tab to configure columns, calibrate the column, and select the inlet and output points. Up to 6 columns can be configured and each column is in order from 1 to 6.

2. Highlight by selecting the column description area you want to install, such as column 1 as shown above. Select the Inventory button.

3. Select the Add Column to Local Inventory button.
