  • What are the Steps to Install a Guard Column or Retention Gap for a Capillary Column?
You can find instructions for manually installing a guard column by clicking here. Necessary supplies: If you are ordering a new GC column and want to purchase it with the guard column/retention gap already attached, there are two additional options available to you:
      • Agilent Technologies can provide you with a Duraguard column. Duraguard column technology provides you with an integrated guard column, so you don't have to worry about having any tubing unions in your system. Duraguard columns are available in select column dimensions and stationary phases (please see additional information found at the Duraguard link above).
      • Leak-Free Union Service: Agilent's Custom Column Shop can attach guard column tubing to your analytical column for you, saving you the time and trouble of manual installation. We will attach the tubing to the union (using the method described at the link above), cure the assembly in an oven and then do a leak check to assure seal integrity. Please contact the Custom Column Shop for a quote.
