Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the Modern World |
For thousands of years, more than 11,000 kinds of traditional medicines have been used in China, with positive curative effects for different kinds of diseases. In fact, the use of traditional remedies is wide-spread throughout Asia—and more and more Western countries are now discovering their value as supplementary food and nutrients. To bring the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to modern society in all countries, the Chinese government’s TCM modernization is focusing on the use of advanced technologies to study and characterize the properties of various TCMs. But there are many different kinds of compounds, and their components can be very complex. They might include inorganic, organic, volatile and non-volatile compounds—in concentrations ranging from normal to trace level.
With 35 years of experience in analytical instrumentation Agilent has developed a portfolio of solutions for the analysis of TCMs in research, manufacturing and regulatory control. These solutions enable users to obtain reliable results quickly during all stages of the complex TCM workflows.
