Intermediate Mass Spectral Interpretation
| $398(USD) |
H5319A |
One Day |
Lecture Only |
| $469(CAD) |
| Description: |
This course introduces two common decomposition mechanisms responsible for many fragment ions in mass spectra. The use of these mechanisms can help the analyst to determine an appropriate structure from among a number of possible isomers. |
| Outline: |
- The concepts of alpha and inductive cleavage are introduced and applied to structure
determination of :
- esters
- ketones
- ethers
- aldehydes
- amines
- halocarbons
- acids
- hydrocarbons
- alcohols
|
| Prerequisites: |
Successful completion of Introduction To Mass Spectral Interpretation I (H5313A) or equivalent. Students who cannot calculate molecular formulae from isotopic abundances will not be able to complete 50% of the class problems. |
| Equipment: |
Please bring a calculator. |
| Student Profile: |
This course is designed for students who can calculate a molecular formula and propose possible molecular structures and desire an understanding of fundamental fragmentation mechanisms to help identify unknown compounds from their mass spectra. |
