Workflow enhancements announced at HPLC 2008 Symposium in Baltimore, Maryland, USA

By Helmut Schulenberg-Schell
Marketing Manager Liquid Chromatography

Agilent Technologies introduced a wide range of ground-breaking innovations to our liquid chromatography (LC) portfolio at HPLC 2008. Agilent’s Poroshell 120 columns, 1200 Rapid Resolution (RRLC) system, 1200 Series LC Method Development Solution and newest version of ChemStation software offer customers an unmatched combination of choice and productivity within the industry. These product introductions provide increased separation efficiency and productivity at all stages from LC method development to routine analysis.

Poroshell 120 column technology

Poroshell 120 columns columns expand our LC column line, giving you more high resolution options, and accelerate your workflows cost-effectively. They…

  • Provide rugged, high resolution separation within the pressure range of any mainstream LC available, making the benefits of sub-two-micron performance available with existing LCs.
  • Achieve high efficiency in a short column where fast analysis is desirable, and do so at approximately half the pressure of competing systems.
  • Achieve high resolution and high speed separation on current instruments, as well as newer high-pressure LC and LC/MS systems.

B.04.01 ChemStation software

The new version B.04.01 of the Agilent ChemStation software with its enhanced usability is a perfect complement to the 1200 series LC system.

  • A tight integration of instrument control and data with OpenLab enterprise content management (ECM) provides for central data and master method management.
  • Configurable access security makes ChemStation a seamless fit for both non-regulated and regulated environments.
  • More efficient instrument usage is achieved with remote instrument access and central instrument control. The new OpenLab Intelligence Reporter feature simplifies data analysis and frees lab personnel to focus on the measurement results.
  • The Agilent Lab Monitor and Diagnostic software delivers full support for all Agilent 1100 and 1200 Series LC instruments independent of the user’s chromatographic data system.

1200 Series Rapid Resolution System

The Agilent 1200 Series Rapid Resolution System (RRLC) is the most versatile LC system available, combining leading-edge resolution and productivity with standard HPLC capability. Together with Agilent’s leading-edge Poroshell 120 columns, or with ZORBAX RRHT column technology, these systems deliver high end performance without losing their suitability for conventional LC methods. With new modules, the 1200 RRLC System delivers:

  • 90,000 theoretical plates in 4 minutes for maximum separation efficiency.
  • Up to 5x higher UV sensitivity with new Variable Wavelength Detector.
  • More universal detection with the Evaporative Light Scattering Detector.
  • Near-zero carryover for higher data quality with High Performance Autosampler.

1200 Series LC Method Development Solution

The need for easy and rapid method development has driven the design of the Agilent 1200 Series LC Method Development Solution. The modular structure of the 1200 Series allows tailoring the system to the needs of simple method development up to challenging method optimization tasks.

  • Accommodates up to 15 different solvents and 8 analytical columns – with practically no restrictions – and a maximum of 288 separation conditions.
  • Intuitive Agilent ChemStation Method Scouting Wizard guides the user through the initial steps of setting up the experiments.
  • Together with well-established method development software packages, these systems provide a workflow solution to any LC method development group.
